How We Work With You
NatureServe is a non-advocacy organization and as such, we perform conservation planning services for any organization that seeks to apply sound data, science, and tools to the process. We provide results and products that support your decision making but final choices of what and where to conserve are up to you.

Because land use and conservation play out over long time spans, our objective is to leave your institution or community fully enabled to continue the ongoing work of conservation assessment and implementation. We understand, however, that many clients seek to have the initial science, GIS, and planning work conducted for them and we can tailor the project to fit your needs, constraints, and timeframe.
Enabling long-term local capacity begins with building partnerships and technical capabilities to continue data development and management, conservation assessment and prioritization, and implementation and monitoring. At the center of these partnerships are often our NatureServe Network Member organizations of Natural Heritage Programs (NHP) and Conservation Data Centers (CDC) that provide a variety of data, science, and conservation services. Your NHP or CDC is your first stop to understanding what services can be provided relative to your needs. In many cases your program may provide all needed services.
To discuss your conservation planning needs with NatureServe, simply email or call the Program Director and we'll tailor the process to your needs. Initial steps typically include:
- Discussing the nature of your planning needs and decision making process
- Understanding your environmental, social, and political context
- Determining local capacities for supporting all or parts of the complete planning process, implementation, and ongoing updates and support
- Providing demonstrations of case studies using NatureServe Vista
- Provide a detailed description of work, products, and costs for performing the services
